L'idea di base è quella di fare un disco pre-rock, se mi consenti il termine. Una specie di what if rock never happened. Quindi, oltre alle influenze solite e inevitabili, ho preso stilemi da Morricone, dal pop italiano fine anni cinquanta/inizio anni sessanta, dalla canzone napoletana, dal pop americano pre-beatles, dalla musica greca e orientale, dal folk modale, dalla musica classica e ho cercato strumentazioni atipiche per spostare la cosa fuori dal tempo. Le percussioni sono fatte quasi tutte con pezzi di metallo, sul modello degli Einsturzende Neubauten, i synth sono alla maniera del primo post punk, le chitarre non sono mai distorte ed hanno un suono da disco pop degli anni sessanta, ci sono un sacco di strumenti strani o etnici e ho abolito la batteria di proposito per dare più spazio alla voce e all'eco e ai riverberi. Il disco è collocato nella dimensione mentale del sogno e del dormiveglia e nella dimensione geografica di un sud puramente immaginario. E' un disco visionario e profondamente meridionale. La parola ricorrente è "controra", che è l'ora più calda del giorno, l'ora dei miraggi e delle allucinazioni, l'ora del dormiveglia agitato da sogni sensuali, l'ora in cui tutte le bestie riposano e non c'è nessuno in giro tranne il dio Pan. Ho praticamente suonato e registrato tutto da solo. Nell'unico pezzo con la batteria c'è Gianluca Schiavon, ma non lo sa, perchè ho recuperato la sua traccia da delle vecchie registrazioni, alla viola in "Café Chantant" c'è Luca D'Alberto, nei primi tre pezzi le voci femminili sono delle bravissima Sandra Ippoliti (un talento sconosciuto) e nell'ultimo pezzo canta Tying Tiffany, che è una cara amica con la quale collaboro spesso.

Own Rocket è il nuovo singolo dei Soupaczar, band parmigiana dall’attitudine brit che si muove dal pop-rock in puro stile '60s facendosi contaminare da sonorità più indie, con forti sfumature dance. Dopo due anni di attività serrata, tra composizioni e live in giro per l’Italia, i quattro musicisti hanno iniziato a comporre pezzi dove tutto ciò si intreccia, dando vita all’album Ordinary quite Contrary, di prossima uscita per la ForEars Records. Peter Hook 'Saddened and Upset' at New Order Reunion News 'There have been some very, very dodgy dealings. They are in control because there’s more of them than me'

Were you surprised to realize the relationship had gone that sour?No, I’ve known the relationship has been bad for a long time. There have been some very, very dodgy dealings. They are in control because there’s more of them than me. [Laughs] So it’s a very frustrating feeling because you’ve only got 25 percent and they’ve got 75 percent and it’s like being stranded on a desert island waiting to be rescued. You are a bit stuck and a bit helpless. Ultimately I am happy for them to go out and play live, I really am. They’ve just taken everything with no regard. Ultimately it’s my music they’re playing so it’s not the end of the world. I was instrumental, excuse the pun, in New Order for 34 years and they won’t take that from you unless they started releasing new records that eclipsed all the New Order stuff. And maybe they’ll do that, I don’t know. But I do know at this point in time there have been some really underhand, dirty business dealings that have enabled them to do this that I don’t agree with and I’m very saddened and upset by it. But it’ll come out in the wash.

This is a situation a lot of bands have dealt with. Are there musicians you’ve spoken to or looked to for guidance on how to deal with these issues?Musicians are very interesting animals – they can get deeply hurt and then reform. The Eagles are the best example that I’ve ever heard of of hating each other and then getting back together to tour. So at the moment I have a business problem with my old colleagues that will have to be resolved. To my mind, they’ve, as we say in England, jumped the gun. But as my lawyer said this is generally something that can be resolved. That’s what musicians are like, they’re like children aren’t they? [Laughs] They need looking after by adults.

New Order Reform For Two Benefit Gigs

New Order have announced details of two benefit gigs, which are set to take place in Europe later this year.

The band will perform in Brussels on October 17 and Paris on October 18 in aid of their friend Michael Shamberg. Shamberg - who produced several of New Order’s music videos, including the Brit Award winning 'True Faith' and 'Regret' - has been struggling with a debilitating illness since 2005. New Order's line-up will feature Stephen Morris and Bernard Sumner, but no Peter Hook, who left in 2007. Gillian Gilbert and Tom Chapman complete the line-up.
